The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka yesterday announced that all sluice gates of the Polgolla Dam will be opened for eight hours from 10.00 pm today.
The Authority said the sluice gates will be opened in view to empty the entire tank for annual inspection activities and essential maintenance work to be done before the forthcoming monsoon rains.
Accordingly, all sluice gates will be kept open from 10.00 pm until 6.00 am on the following day, the Mahaweli Authority said.
The engineer in charge of the Polgolla Dam advised the public to refrain from using Mahaweli River in the area as the areas below the Polgolla Dam is dangerous during that period. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
