All schools in the country including Western Province (WP) will be reopened on March 15, Education Minister G.L. Pieris said.
Addressing the media at the ministry he said the decision was taken following the permissions given by the Health Services Director-General.
The Ministry has decided to issue a common notice to all the schools in WP.
Therefore, the recommendations given by the Divisional Secretariat coordinating committees have been taken into concern and produced them to the Health Ministry, he said.
However, the GCE O/Level examination will be held from March 1 to 11.
After the examination, all schools including grade 1 will begin on March 15, the Minister said. All schools will be opened adhering to health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry, the Minister added.
Earlier, it was announced to open selected schools in the Western Province on February 15. However, the Ministry has taken the new decision cancelling its previous decision. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
