UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim said today he did not hold the view that State Ministers Ajith P. Perera and Sujeewa Senasinghe had done anything wrong for the party to conduct a disciplinary inquiry.
He told journalists that calling for an explanation over a statement made by a member was not such a major issue. “A disciplinary inquiry is nothing unusual. This matter would end after they provide an explanation,” Mr. Hashim said.
When asked whether a disciplinary inquiry was being initiated because the two-state ministers had urged the party leadership to name UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Hashim said a disciplinary inquiry should also be conducted on others who claim to be the party’s presidential candidates.
