While saying that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) had been handed over to conspirators just for his personal benefit by a leader who came to power with 6.2 million votes, former president Chandrika Kumaratunga said 95% SLFP organisers were against the SLFPs decision to join the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Issuing a statement, she said this had been done to fulfil mere political objectives and according to the discretion of a few SLFP members.
“What is pathetic is that this decision was taken on the day when the 10th death anniversary of late prime minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike was commemorated,”
“SLFP is a party which has been victorious and democratic right throughout the history but now the SLFP has fallen to a state where it cannot field its own candidate for the upcoming presidential election,” Kumaratunga said.
She invited true SLFP members to take a wise decision in the upcoming elections in order to defeat the coup.
She proceeded to say that the SLFP was a party which had not killed anybody and not plundered people’s money but reigned in power ensuing transparency. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

She can't stand the popularity of the Rajapakses who did something for the country.
Chandana Walgama Tuesday, 15 October 2019 09:22 PM
Should be greatful to Rajapakses to slowly eradicate the SLFP which is a curse for the country.
Greg Crumb Tuesday, 15 October 2019 11:42 PM
CBK is the one who destroyed the SLFP by teaming up with UNP in 2015 to field MS as common candidate. She was also scared to fight with LTTE in order to destroy it as MR did. Sri Lankans were lucky to have Rajapakses as leaders although they may have played out peoples' money.

One redeeming feature in this Ploitical circus that is currently in motion is that THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM THAT ENDED at the 2015 election is highly unlikely to be repeated in 2019. The extent of corruption post 2015 has drawn the Island's Economy deeper into a 3rd world status.

If the peoples minds are the same as the above comments then it will take anather 1000 years for Sri Lanka to be par with other countries.

This SWRDs KODIVINA party should disintergrate into smithereens for what it has done to this once prosperous nation . Power crazy SWRD formed this party to AVENGE the UNP for not giving him the PREMIERSHIP. Two decades of Family this rule we went from TOP DOG of ASIA to Underdog and ended up as a SLAVE nation, working mostly for the secondhand Camel dealers in the middle east. Also decade of rule under the same party by MARA made us a nation of debtors. My message to Donkeys

DJ and My3 killed the SLFP.
Sunil Wednesday, 16 October 2019 11:07 AM
If there is one person responsible for the ruin of the SLFP, it is you?
Rahmathullah Wednesday, 16 October 2019 02:48 PM
She is right. It is pathetic to note that a great party like SLFP gets lost in the current political drama.
Rajiva Wednesday, 16 October 2019 03:23 PM
Sirisena and the clan want some Ministry positions in the Gota government to enjoys and get perks at the cost of SLFP.
