He told the cabinet briefing that according to the proposals made by subject minister Mahinda Amaraweera, a grace period of three months would be provided to pay the bills.

He said no late payment would be charged from the consumers.

WOW how ridiculous is this. The country was locked down during this period. People were at home and 25% discount for under 90 unit usage. Insult to our intelligence.

    Bandu Thursday, 09 July 2020 12:05 PM

The real problem he forgets is not giving a grace period of three months to pay the bills but the overcharging where people had to pay higher tariff charges for CEB guesswork. The question is the value overcharged. This is stupid.

What a joke is this government playing, what about others who used more than 90 units, aren't they Sri Lankans

    BigEars Thursday, 09 July 2020 12:12 PM

would love to know how many units per month is consumed by the Minsters residence. Afterall, we are paying that bill too!

    Sunil Thursday, 09 July 2020 12:57 PM

What about those who have used more than 90 ?

    M. Marikar Baba Thursday, 09 July 2020 02:20 PM

Even this is not enough. My earlier light bill averaged Rs. 1200 - Rs. 1300 maximum, but now its over Rs. 7000/- to Rs. 9000/=

Lal Madanayake Thursday, 09 July 2020 02:22 PM

You better keep this relief as well , is this the way you are treating the people?? When it comes to your pensions, salary increments, allowances, dutyfree vehicles, and all your facilities you are not stingy but just see when you have to give something to the people how stingy are you.

We elected them to save the country from Yahapalanaya. All we needed was a country for our future generations to live. Now stop complaining and enjoy the next 5 years.

    ROHAN Thursday, 09 July 2020 03:31 PM

WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO USED MORE THAN 90 UNITS. WE ARE NOT HUMANS. WE ARE THE REAL TAX PAYERS.

Middle Class Thursday, 09 July 2020 03:31 PM

25% discount is fine but ONLY for those who used less than 90 units per month is RIDICULOUS. Even the low income users would have used more than 90 units during this time. The overcharged amounts need to deducted first before anything else. This is just another election gimmick.

    Edwin Thursday, 09 July 2020 03:55 PM

We the voters are the fools for believing this statement

    Bandu Thursday, 09 July 2020 04:32 PM

Oh where are the Consumer Affairs and Public Utility Commissions. Talk big for selling parippu by sillara kade but silent on this mass scale robbing by CEB.

    Sanjeeva Thursday, 09 July 2020 07:27 PM

    Bunkum !!

    Thor Friday, 10 July 2020 07:02 AM

Even Hopper Akka, would have used over 90 units during the lockdown period. What a farce and what an asshole!!!

Roger Haĺliday Friday, 10 July 2020 08:04 AM

Isn't this an election ploy to get the poor voters to support the government on August 5th. Yes the greater number of voters are under this 90 units. I hope the EC will block this move.

confusion most confounded Friday, 10 July 2020 09:10 AM

Please without knowing how the computaton was done for the lockdown period DO NOT on your own come to conclusions. The issue of three bills is the confusion. Look at your last bill - that is all what is due.
