It was reported that 146 prisoners are to be released from prisons island-wide tomorrow on presidential pardon to mark the 73rd Independence Day, Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake today said.
He said due to the COVID-19 epidemic and granting of amnesties on the eve of Christmas day, on August 31 and November 20 last year, the number of prisoners on parole has decreased.
The detainees who are due to be released tomorrow have already undergone PCR tests and will be released as soon as the results are conveyed, he said.
