Rains exceeding 100 mm is expected in the coming days in Central, Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Ampara and Batticaloa Districts as a result of active northeast monsoon conditions, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
“Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 1.00 pm,” the department added.
Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph were forecast in Eastern slopes of central hills, Northern,
North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota.
A few areas experienced heavy showers yesterday as well with the highest rainfall of 126 mm recorded from
Padiyathalawa in Ampara District while a rainfall of 115 mm was recorded from Polonnaruwa. Badulla District experienced a rainfall of 37 mm and Nuwara-eliya 28 mm. (YOHAN PERERA)
