Making Microsoft Word even easier, Microsoft Sri Lanka announced the launch Office 2016 and Windows 10 in Sri Lanka recently.

Microsoft Office 2016 is a version of the Microsoft productivity suite, which succeeds both Office 2013 and Office for Mac 2011. Office 2016 apps, the latest addition to Office 365, Microsoft’s cloud-based subscription service, helps people do their work together.

Windows 10, which is delivered as a service, offers a safer, innovative and updated experience and is expected to mark the beginning of a more personal computing era in the mobile-first, cloud-first world. It comes with security and management improvements that will be appealing for enterprises.

Through this Microsoft expects to reinvent productivity and business processes, build an intelligent cloud platform and create more personal computing.
Speaking at the launch Southeast Asia, New Markets, Asia Pacific, General Manager Michelle Simmons said that the company’s mission is to empower every person, every organisation on the planet to achieve more.

“We live in a mobile-first, cloud-first world. We all have mobile phones, tablets, desktops, laptops. But it is about how we work, how we play, how we interact with technology may be from park, may be from home. When we think about mobility it creates a lot of data, creates documents, creates pictures, all of them should have a place to live, when we see today and the future the data is living in the cloud,” she said.

Newly appointed Country Manager for Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives Brain Kealy said with this launch Microsoft and Sri Lanka are celebrating new beginnings together.

“Microsoft is truly a global organisation. Our mission is to help every business and person to achieve more.”

He said nowadays people carry so many devices such as phone, tablet, computer and considering that they created a platform, an operating system that expands around many devices which makes the Microsoft the first company to do so.

“The reason why Windows 10 successful is everything made so familiar. We got a lot of feedback from people who use Windows; as a result we decided to make use of both Windows 7 and 8 when creating Windows 10.”

Further he said they were concerned about safety and security when building in the new version. He gave an example on how important it is to secure information which Windows 10 is expected to provide.

“You must have heard of Sony who was about to release a movie on North Korea, that was very threatening. So many credit cards and RADA information were stolen,” he said.

He said that because of this kind of acts they introduced a new technology which recognises faces when log in to devices.

“In Windows 10, we introduced a new functionality for PCs and for phones where you can use facial recognition when log in to devices where you don’t need any passwords.

Australia did a test on this on identical twins, they looked the same, the hair cut, the dress where even the system can be cheated, but it didn’t! Even in identical twins it recognised the eyes and everything, so it is very secure,” he said.

According to the sources of Microsoft Asia Pacific survey; 2014, 79 percent of people own three or more types of devices and  Microsoft Asia Pacific SMB cloud survey; 2015 shows that 74 percent of SMB workers consider themselves as mobile professionals.
