Hiranthi De Silva was conferred the Gold award for career achievement in the Banking and Finance category at the sixth Professional and Career Women Awards 2016.
The awards ceremony, which is dedicated to the success of women, aims to recognize the current women leadership while using their achievements and experience to inspire future generations of women in the country, in a bid to increase women participation in leadership roles and motivate them to reach higher in their selected professions/careers.
The Gold award winner for 2016 from the Banking and Finance category, Hiranthi De Silva is a veteran banker with 28 years’ experience in the sector and currently holds the position of Vice President, Wholesale Banking at Union Bank.
Prior to joining Union Bank, De Silva had completed an illustrious stint of over 25 years at Sampath Bank where she had served in diverse areas including branch banking, bank operations and corporate credit. Having embarked on her banking career as an Assistant Manager, De Silva ascended to the position of Deputy General Manager of Corporate Credit, overlooking the functions of corporate credit, commercial credit and corporate banking.
Currently, as the Vice President Wholesale Banking at Union Bank, De Silva overlooks the corporate and small and medium enterprise (SME) banking units of the Bank.
The Professional and Career Women Awards ceremony is organised by the Women in Management (WIM) foundation in association with International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
