The Police Headquarters yesterday interdicted the Police Sergeant who was videoed while assaulting a woman at the Ratnapura Bus Stand.  The video went viral on the internet last week. Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said further action would be taken after the investigations were completed.

"The policeman had assaulted the woman after she allegedly threw a stone at him when he intervened to stop a brawl"

The incident had taken place about three weeks ago when two women were involved in a brawl at the Ratnapura Bus Stand. The Ratnapura Police constable who was on duty had attempted to bring the situation under control.
However the women had reportedly not listened to the policemen and one of the women had thrown a stone at the policeman who had lost his temper and retaliated by baton charging the woman after grabbing her by the hair and throwing her down.  A bystander at the bus stand had recorded the video footage from his mobile phone and uploaded it on the internet.
