Willing to accept Chief Opposition Whip post: Harsha

• I will be happy to accept the opportunity and will perform the task

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday said he would be happy to accept and perform the post of Chief Opposition Whip, if given the opportunity.   

I have served in Parliament for ten years, both in the Opposition and in the Government

Dr. De Silva came up with the remark in response to a question raised by the journalists whether he would be appointed as the Chief Opposition Whip. It was reported earlier that Dr. De Silva’s name among the others was considered to the post by the SJB.   

“I have served in Parliament for ten years, both in the Opposition and in the Government. The preferential votes which I obtained at the elections which were more than 82,000 is proof that I have been endorsed by the people. In such a scenario, I will be happy to accept the opportunity and will perform the task,” he said.   

It was reported in media that Dr. De Silva was among few others who were considered for the post of Chief Opposition Whip. Others considered were Lakshman Kiriella, Gayantha Karunatileka and Patali Champika Ranawaka.
