The SLFP will never support any party comprising thieves, corrupt persons, assassins or the underworld
By Sandun A. Jayasekera
None has ever come to power without an alliance or common front and as such the upcoming presidential election could only be won through a leftist progressive political movement, President Maithripala Sirisena said addressing the SLFP Matara District convention held last Sunday at the Weligama Town Hall.
He said it was vital to establish a party that was committed to serve the country.
“The SLFP will never support any party comprising thieves, corrupt persons, assassins or the underworld. No party can win the election without garnering the support of the SLFP.
“The next government must launch a programme to win the hearts of patriotic people. For all ethnic groups to be able to live in an equitable society is a crying need of the country. A government that never bows down to foreign powers should be formed. Except for the SLFP, the government and the opposition are engaged in discussions with foreign embassies,” he said.
SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, his UPFA counterpart Mahinda Amaraweera, Kumara Welgama, Manoj Sirisena and several seniors of the party were present at the event.
