UNP which is due to review and assess the results of the presidential elections on November 25, 2019 is focusing on a young leadership that could attract more Buddhist votes, party General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday.
Mr. Kariyawasam said the review would be done with the current leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the chair.
He said the UNF backed candidate had managed to attract only 4 million of the majority vote while the SLPP candidate President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had managed to capture 6.5 million. Also he said the UNF backed candidate had lost his constituency by a large majority.
“We will also be focusing on a young leadership that could attract the votes of the majority community,” he said.
