The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been temporary closed after detection of a COVID-19 patient, Education Minister Professor G. L. Peiris told Parliament yesterday.   He said PCR tests will be carried out on those working at the UGC shortly.

“I could not get information to answer the question raised by MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake under the Standing Order 27(2) because of the situation in the UGC,” the Minister said.

Mr. Dissanayake raised a question on issues pertaining to university intakes. However the Minister said 371 had been recruited to medical faculties and 407 to the engineering faculties in addition to the usual average intake.
