Senior DIG in charge of elections Priyantha Weerasuriya said that two OICs who were supportive of certain political parties while performing their assigned duties have been removed from their posts.
The two police officers removed with the approval of the Police Commission were the Polonnaruwa HQI and the OIC of Ja-ela Police Station. The Polonnaruwa HQI had been assigned to the Panadura Police division while the Ja-ela Police OIC have been assigned to the Police Headquarters.
The Senior DIG stated further that investigations are also been conducted against another 12 Police Officials for partisan activities. These 12 police officers are said to be from Kalmunai, Samanthurai, Puttalam and Kurunegala areas.
A police officer who had actively engaged in election work had been taken into custody and later interdicted.
