Twenty ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds are presently occupied by COVID-19 patients, an official said.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told a news conference that 126 more ICU beds had been arranged for such patients if the need arose. He said 70 treatment centres with 11,575 beds had been arranged for the benefit of infected patients, and 8,849 were under occupation at the moment.
By 2.00 pm yesterday, there were as many as 41,054 patients. Of them, 37,350 were reported after the outbreak of the second wave in October.
