The 33-year-old mother whose two daughters and husband were tragically drowned in strong currents in the Kirinda Sea off Yala last week has also succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment on Saturday night, police said.

They said she was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

The family of four who were residents of Nuwara Eliya were dragged by strong currents in the Kirinda Sea off Yala on June 23.

The man (38), his wife and the two daughters – aged four and seven- were rescued from the currents and were rushed to the Kirinda and Debarawewa hospitals, however, the man and two daughters were pronounced dead on admission last Sunday.

The mother, Hashini Wijesuriya was working in a bank as an executive officer.

They met with the tragedy while touring Yala.
