The Prisons Department has launched special investigations regarding an incident in which a jailor tried to bribe the Superintendent of the Colombo Remand Prison to facilitate three suspects, including one involved in the Easter Sunday attack, Prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said.
It is revealed that the jailor has gone to the Superintendent of Remand Prisons and asked him to “take special care of a suspect involved in the Easter attack and two other suspects involved in drug trafficking. The jailor informed the Prison Superintendent that the suspects are ready to help him in any way. The Superintendent has shown his support for the proposal and the three detainees have been brought to the Superintendent’s office by the suspect jailor. After the summons, the Superintendent had asked the suspects, “What do you want from me?” The three suspects had told the Superintendent, “Sir, I will give you any amount of money and in return let us keep a telephone in the cell. “ The jailor who was involved in the incident has been suspended.
