Thisara Perera joins Army

On the invitation of Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, celebrated cricketer Thisara Perera recently joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as a Major. 

Military Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickramasingha said yesterday Thisara Perera who accepted the invitation would be enlisted in the Gajaba Regiment. The Defence Ministry has approved the appointment of Thisara who played his maiden match for Army Cricket last Sunday. 
Meanwhile, Thisara tweeted: “I accepted the invitation of Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to join the Army. Receiving an invitation from someone of his calibre was one of the biggest achievements in life. Thank you sir! I look forward to contributing my best to Army Cricket.” Earlier, cricketer Dinesh Chandimal joined Sri Lanka Army as a Major to play for Army Cricket.
