Tarinda Ratwatte, the suspect driver of the Defender Vehicle which was involved in the accident in which State Intelligence Services (SIS) Police Constable (PC) Sithum Alahapperuma was killed, was ordered to be further remanded till June 19 by the Colombo Traffic Court yesterday.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate S. Prabhakaran, DIG Ajith Rohana informed the Court that according to the medical reports of the suspect, it was revealed that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
He requested the Magistrate to further remand the suspect until Police completed investigations into the matter. President’s Counsel Kalinga Indratissa appeared for the suspect.
The PC attached to the SIS, Sithum Alahapperuma, who foiled the Rs. 7.9 million robbery at the National Hospital, died on June 14 while receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital, following the road accident at Bambalapitya on June 11.
