Police investigations disclosed that a suspect arrested over a drug offence, allegedly maintained links with an organisation that was promoting Islamic extremism, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said the Peliyagoda Police arrested the suspect, a resident of Keselwatta in Panadura a few months ago.
It was revealed that a large sum of money from Dubai had been credited to his bank account.
However, further investigations revealed that a part of the sum which he had received has been credited to an organisation that was promoting Islamic extremism.
Accordingly, the suspect was handed over to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for further interrogation, the spokesman said.
