The All Ceylon National Bhikshu Forum (ACNBF) yesterday requested President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister Sajith Premadasa to render their support to nominate Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the national candidate at the upcoming Presidential Election.

Speaking to the media at the National Library yesterday, the Chief incumbent of Tantirimale Vihara Venerable Tantirimale Chandrarathna said that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was the most appropriate person to be the national candidate at the Presidential Election.

“Considering the criteria, we request Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to come forward as the national candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election,” the Thera said.  “We think the Speaker is the most appropriate person among the candidates who hope to come forward as national candidate,” he said.  “The common candidate should rule this country and take the middle path according to the Buddha’s teachings,” he said.

He said:

“Our Sinhala Buddhist country owns a history of more than a thousand years and the upcoming national leadership should live up to it. When it comes to National Leadership, that person should know the history, culture of the country, should be genuine person, well experienced and should be able to work with the people with humanity. The leadership should be knowledgeable and be able to work with the latest development projects in the country.”

We think the Speaker is the most appropriate person among the candidates who hope to come forward as national candidate
