Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith should be summoned before the parliamentary select committee looking into the Easter Sunday attacks especially because of the statements he made during his recent tour to the Vatican, State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday.
Speaking during the emergency debate in Parliament the State Minister said Cardinal Ranjith should be summoned before the committee in light of a revelation made by him that he received a phone call at around 6.30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, the day of the attacks.
“Minister Harin Fernando said his personal security officer had informed his father about the Easter Sunday attacks while MP Dayasiri Jayasekera had said that the Taj Samudra Hotel was not bombed because a certain person was in it. He too should be summoned before the committee,” Mr. Ramanayake said.
He said MPs who claims that their personal security officers had informed them about the April 21 attacks should also be summoned before the committee, adding that the opposition should be supporting the committee instead of criticizing it.
