Stop mudslinging - President tells SLFP-SLPP members

• Insult and tell voters not to vote is similar to giving weapons to opposition

Verbal clash between certain members of the SLPP and the SLFP in many parts of the country, particularly in Gampaha, Polonnaruwa and Matara Districts has come under heavy criticism by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the cabinet meeting yesterday, a senior Minister said.  

President Rajapaksa said that the mudslinging at election campaign meeting between candidates of both parties  immensely damaging the SLPP election campaign and those engaged in vituperative politics have to stop it forthwith.   

He told the Ministers that what the candidates who insult and tell voters not to vote for certain candidates is similar to giving weapons to opposition parties.
