The State Minister of Defence Chamal Rajapaksa has been empowered by a gazette notification with regard to the certification of dual citizenship.

It has been reported that the certification of applications for dual citizenship has been crippled due to non availability of a Minister of Defence as the President has no right of holding a ministerial portfolio according to the 19th amendment to the constitution.

When we inquired about this, Assistant Director of Administration (Legal) and Media Spokesman of the Department of Immigration & Emigration said that now there is no problem about certifying citizenship applications as powers have been given to the State Minister of Defence.
