The Singaporean Attorney General had inquired from his Sri Lankan counterpart whether the offence committed by Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran fell in line with the Extradition Treaty and if Sri Lanka was in the process of proving it, Minister of Justice Ali Sabry informed Parliament yesterday.
Minister Sabri said the Sri Lankan attorney General is currently in dialogue with Singapore concerning Mahendran’s extradition. “Sri Lankan Attorney General is currently dealing with his Singaporean counterpart about the extradition of Mahendran.
This is what the Attorney General had informed me with regard to the bond scam,” the Minister said. He said court cases are being filed against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake for perjury, PTL officials for manipulating evidence while cases are also being filed against a few others on bribery. “ We will not rest until we find the last person responsible for the bond scam,” he said. “ I will table the report sent to me by the Attorney General in reply to the inquiry I made from him concerning the extradition of Mahendran before the House as I don’t want to utter things,” the Minister also said.
