Seven Grama Niladari divisions belonging to the quarantine- curfew imposed Attanagalla and Mirigama areas were locked down as high-security zones yesterday morning, Gampaha Divisional Secretary Sunil Jayalath said last evening.
He said there was a risk of COVID-19 spreading fast in these divisions named as high-security zones such as Maligatenna, Maligatenna Central, Maligatenna Lower, Kurikotuwa, Kurikotuwa Lower, Eluwapitiya and Eluwapitiya West.
This step has been taken after 37 persons had been found infected with Coronavirus. “Outsiders cannot enter these divisions and the people living in these divisions cannot exit,” he said.
He said that the access roads of these divisions had been closed with police barriers. “About 12,600 people belonging to 3,688 are families living in these seven divisions. However, steps have been taken to fulfil their needs through Divisional Secretaries and the local government bodies.
It has been reported that coronavirus has infected six Buddhist monks in a temple in Eluwapitiya area and one layperson.
