The Education Ministry will evolve a host of health guidelines for the re-opening of schools on January 11, 2021, Minister Professor G.L. Peiris said yesterday. The Minister told a news conference that financial assistance had been extended to the school authorities to implement health guidelines by purchasing thermal scanners, hand sanitizing liquid and washbasins. For this purpose, he said the UNICEF and the WHO had provided assistance.
“We sent money before November 23 to some schools. We are sending money for others,” he said.
He said he, along with Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera, held talks with the health experts during the weekend and discussed measures for reopening schools despite the pandemic.
Classrooms will be disinfected. Besides, doors and windows will be kept open to ensure proper ventilation so that virus is not spread through swirling currents of air within.
