STF deployed at prisons in Colombo

• STF security has already been provided to the Angunukolapelassa and Boosa prisons

The Special Task Force of Police had been deployed to provide security to the outer parameters at Welikada, Colombo Remand and Magazine prisons.  

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the STF will also provide security for Prisons Hospital and the Welikada Female Ward.  

He said the STF will commence their duties from Tuesday (25), and will also take steps to prevent illegal substances from reaching the  inmates.  

“There is a shortage of prisons officials. We hope to recruit officials for the Prisons Department by the end of this year. The STF officers will be withdrawn after the prisons’ officials were recruited.,” he said.
