Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), at their second round of bilateral talks, agreed on policy matters on 20 counts subject to the approval of the central committees of the two sides, a party official said yesterday.
SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris who attended talks on behalf of his party told the Daily Mirror that a stable agreement on policies covering all aspects including foreign relations, education, agriculture and economy was needed for a sustainable alliance. Prof. Peiris said it should be done rather than cobbling together the alliance purely for electoral purposes. He said the two sides reached agreement on preamble and 20 essential matters subject to the approval of the central committees of the two parties. He also said the two sides agreed on the need to have a mechanism for their implementations.
Besides, they focused on cooperation at the local authorities and the two remaining provincial councils.
