Supreme Court yesterday (12) directed the Attorney General to file Rule (Charge) against State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake within a month on the alleged offence of contempt of court.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justices Vijith K. Malalgoda.and Murdu N. B. Fernando fixed the matter for July 30. President’s Counsel Faisz Musthapha appeared for Ranjan Ramanayake while Senior Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratnam appeared for the AG. The State Minister, during a TV programme in December last year, allegedly commented on the composition of the Supreme Court Bench which was hearing the Fundamental Rights petitions filed against the dissolution of parliament.
