President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association Upul Rohana cautioned that despite reports showing a drop in the number of positive cases of Covid-19, the authorities and the people should not arrive at a conclusion that the country is now free of the pandemic.
He said that during the past few days there had been a significant drop in the number of Covid-19 cases being reported, which is satisfying, but it is not wise to assume that the danger of this pandemic is now easing in the country. It should be remembered that we are still within the dangerous situation.
According to the World Health Organisation the danger of the spread of Covid-19 is on the increase and our country alone cannot be exempted from this. We stress that random PCR tests should continue to identify positive cases in the society. It is our belief that without taking necessary steps in this regard the spread of this pandemic cannot be controlled.
