Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was sentenced to 04 years of rigorous imprisonment has been transferred to the Angunakolapelessa Prison yesterday.

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that he was transferred after completing his quarantine period at the Correctional Centre for Youthful Offenders in Pallansena.
The spokesman said that Ramanayake had been detained at the E Ward of the prison.   The Supreme Court sentenced MP Ranjan Ramanayake to 04 years of rigorous imprisonment for Contempt of Court on January 12.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices Sisira De Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda and Preethi Padman Surasena found the former state minister guilty of the charges, beyond any reasonable doubt.   The Bench ruled that Ramanayake had committed Contempt of Court when he commented to the media that the majority of judges and lawyers in the country were corrupt on the 21st of August 2017.
