Former Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, sentenced to a four-year rigorous imprisonment over contempt of court, filed a writ through a motion in the Supreme Court to survey the conviction.
A three-judge bench comprising Supreme Court Justices Sisira de Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda, and Preethi Padman Surasena had consistently conveyed the decision on January 12. Mr. Ramanayake who filed the motion further requested to file a revision application regarding the verdict. The motion was filed through Attorney-at-Law Dinesh Vidanapathirana and the relevant documents and affidavits were submitted to court. The case had been earlier filed against former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake over Contempt of Court charges for making defamatory remarks against the Judiciary on August 21, 2017.
