There are grave matters such as the bond scam, Easter Sunday carnage and Malwana Mansion that need to be investigated other than the arrest of MP Ranjan Ramanayake for keeping a pistol without a renewed license, UNP MP Harshana Rajakaruna said yesterday.
“What the government should investigate is the bond scam and Easter Sunday attacks as they pledged to do so during the election.
People in the present administration promised to put those who are responsible for the bond scam behind bars. They said those who were responsible for the Easter attacks were with the former government.
It is now time to investigate these matters without engaging in political victimisation. The present regime was voted in as the former failed to arrest those who robbed public funds,” he said. He said the police went to MP Ramanayake’s residence to find several documents which were said to have been in his possession but ended up arresting him for having a pistol.
“I am unaware as to who is truly responsible for renewing the license of pistols given to MPs from the Defence Ministry. I am oblivious to the whole process as I did not accept the pistol offered to me. However, the arrest of MP Ramanayake is a warning to others in the UNP to remain silent,” he said.
