Twenty-two undergraduates including Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Convener Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinaratana Thera were yesterday ordered to be further remanded till March 16 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

They were arrested on February 29 for protesting outside the University Grants Commission (UGC) violating a court order obtained by the police on the charges of obstructing public movement.
The IUSF launched a ‘Satyagraha’ on February 27 outside the UGC premises urging the removal of the Ruhuna University Vice Chancellor and of CCTV cameras from the campus premises.

When DIG Ajith Rohana arrived at the venue on February 29, he apprised the students of the court order and requested them to call off the protest.
