Alleging that there is a move to prorogue Parliament after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa makes the policy statement on January 3, 2020, UNP yesterday said it will use the majority it currently enjoy to prevent such a situation.
UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe told a press conference that his party will use the majority it enjoy to prevent such a move.
“We used the majority to which we enjoyed to force the reconvening the House when it was prorogued during the 52 day constitutional coup. We will do the same this time as well” the MP said.
“It is essential that Parliament meets to discuss the issues faced by the people such as the current political victimization” he added.
Professor Marasinghe said his party would do its utmost to bring MP Patali Champika Ranawaka out of prison.
