Welikada prison headquarters said the six prisoners who were sentenced to death annulled their protest on the Welikada prison roof and got down from the roof yesterday.

They came down from the roof after they were informed that the President would make a decision on granting amnesty to death row prisoners and commute their sentence to life sentence and for the prisoners who are serving life imprisonment to reduce their sentence to 20-year imprisonment.

Demanding similar amnesty granted to Royal Park murder convict, these prisoners had climbed to the roof and began their protest. Soon after this, unrest among prisoners were reported in Angunukolapelessa and Boossa prisons.
