The power cut schedule in the Colombo zones had not been prepared because there is an existing self electricity generation scheme operating in Colombo, Power and Ministry senior official said yesterday.
He said most of the hotels and large scale companies in the Colombo zones maintain their own electricity generation during power cuts.
“The Colombo city consumes about 350 megawatts of electricity per day out of which 50 megawatts of electricity are used by generators,” he said.
Since the total capacity gets balanced, there is no need for power cuts in the Colombo zones. Earlier, the CEB had promoted this self electricity generation schemes but people were not used to it due to the extra cost.
