A Public Health Inspector (PHI) from the Wariyapola area has been arrested and remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged dereliction of duty by not instituting actions against a person who used to sell water without installing purifying filters.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddika Sri Ragala, the Magistrate ordered to remand suspect Nalin Chandana till April 12.
The Bribery Commission (BC) informed the Court that the raid was carried out following a complaint lodged by a resident of Padeniya on March 23. BC’s Sub Inspector Bandara and Sub Inspector Perera appeared in the Court on behalf of the complainant.
The complaint is that the suspect had obtained Rs. 7000 monthly as a bribe allowing the businessman to carry out his work unchecked. The suspect had assured the businessman the legal coverage for this otherwise unlawful operation.
