Whilst the government stated that the opposition is trying to get political mileage out of the Presidential Commission report on the Easter Sunday probe, the Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella yesterday called for the tabling of all volumes of the report.
Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando told a public gathering that the opposition is trying to get mileage out of the report. “Those who were at home after they were given prior notice of the attack and those who created security lapses paving the way for the attack are making various statements on the Easter Sunday attacks and trying to get political mileage out of it,” the Chief Government Whip said. “These statements do not matter as the government will definitely take action against those who are responsible for the attack,” he said.
Mr. Kiriella earlier alleged that what was tabled in Parliament last week is only one volume of the report. “Only one out of the five volumes was tabled in the House last week. Therefore we request the government to table the rest of the volumes. This has to be done before the debate on the Easter Sunday attacks takes place. If not, it is not possible to have a proper debate,” he said.
