Former Additional Defence Secretary and National Police Commission Secretary D.M. Saman Dissanayake was arrested by the CID yesterday over the Avant-Garde floating armoury case, Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He was arrested while undergoing treatment at the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital. The Attorney General earlier instructed the acting IGP to arrest eight suspects including Saman Dissanayake over the offences he had allegedly committed under the firearms ordinance, Explosives Act and the Penal Code in connection with the incident.
Earlier, Mr. Dissanayake had filed an anticipatory bail application in the Fort Magistrate Court seeking the prevention of his arrest over the case.
However, the Colombo Fort Magistrate on Wednesday (17) refused to grant anticipatory bail to Mr. Dissanayake. The Attorney General had again instructed the Acting Police Chief to arrest Dissanayake along with seven others over the case.
