Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha member M.N.M. Hazeef (SLMC) was taken into custody by the Aluthgama Police on suspicion of obstructing the duty of the Police, during investigations of an unauthorised construction in Dharga Town on Sunday night (16).
Police said when they visited the scene to investigate a public complaint against an unauthorised structure obstructing the side drain on Malevangoda road in Dharga Town, a group of individuals including the PS member had obstructed the duty of the officers. However the police dispersed the crowd and the PS member who behaved in an unruly manner was arrested.
A senior police official said a STF contingent was called to bring the situation under control and an individual who ran away when the STF arrived and had a fall was admitted to hospital.
Last morning SP Kalutara Divison Kapila Premadasa visited the scene and the police had stepped up security in the area. The suspect PS Member was to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate.
OIC Aluthgama Police IP Chandraratne is conducting further investigations on the instructions of DIG Vijitha Gunarathe, SP Kapila Premadasa and ASP Nishan De Silva.
