On the instructions of the Acting IGP, an investigation has been launched against Colombo South Crime Division OIC IP Jayantha Perera for failing to resist from being embraced by MP Ranjan Ramanayake when the latter was being taken into custody last Saturday.

The incident had taken place when a police team led by the Colombo South Crime Division OIC visited MP Ramanayake’s residence and handcuffed him.

Accordingly, the IGP had given instructions to Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon who had then assigned the probe to the Colombo South DIG.
A statement from IP Jayantha Silva is due to be recorded.
