The OIC of the Ja-Ela Police has been transferred by the National Police Commission (NPC) on a request made by the Elections Commission.
NPC Secretary Nishantha Weerasinghe said the Elections Commission Chairman requested to transfer the OIC as he had violated election laws.
Accordingly, Chief Inspector Nilantha Bandara was transferred to the Police Headquarters. It was reported that the OIC was transferred based on an election law violation during an election rally in the area recently. After the OIC had refuted the allegations, the Election officials in the area had provided video evidence which showed that the OIC was violating the laws.
