Non Cabinet Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Dr.Harsha De Silva resigned from his ministerial portfolio yesterday.
“ This is to inform you of my resignation from the portfolio of Non Cabinet Minister Economic Reforms and Public Distribution so that you can appoint a suitable person of your choice to carry out the duties of the same. I gave my best on this and previous positions I held and am satisfied that I was able to contribute to the development of the nation,” he said in his letter of resignation. “ I wish you the wisdom and strength to unite our beloved nation that has been deeply divided on ethnic lines,” Dr De Silva said in his letter of resignation.
Also he requested the President to keep the ‘Suva Seriya’ ambulance service under his purview as per the Act no. 18 of 2018. Dr De Silva said he fear that the service may be subjected to unnecessary interference elsewhere. However Dr. De Silva said he was always ready to extend his support for the improvement of ‘Suwa Seriya’ ambulance service. Meanwhile Dr. De Silva said he has not decided upon resigning from his post as the Treasurer of the UNP. He told Daily Mirror that a decision on that regard will be made at the right time.
