Nine foreigners have been arrested during a special operation conducted in the Colombo City and its suburbs yesterday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Accordingly, three Nigerians, four Maldivians and two Indians were arrested in Mt. Lavinia, Moratuwa, Dehiwala, Slave Island and Grandpass Police areas for overstaying in Sri Lanka violating visa regulations.
He said the police were alerted about many illegal activities, especially by Nigerians who are staying in Sri Lanka illegally and indulge in various criminal activities using social media, internet and e-mail addresses maliciously.
The apprehended foreigners are to be produced in courts.
