The new office bearers of the UNP will begin work next month to bring back those who left the party, Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said this at a ceremony held in Sirikotha to mark with the assumption of duties by the new office bearers.

"We intend to inform the country about the party’s new programme. New office bearers have been tasked to usher the party in a new era. Our party had suffered a major setback. We must convert this setback into a comeback. After discussions with the party regarding this matter, the office bearers will be assigned to discuss it with the media. Office bearers will then begin talks with those ex UNPers who are willing to rejoin the party and with those from other parties who want to work with the UNP," Mr. Wickremesinghe said.

"We must make the voice of the party heard in and outside Parliament. We have to accomplish this task with the new office bearers. Let’s hope these exercises would be a success," he added.
