The bridge spanning Ginganga at Nilwella and linking the remote areas of Neluwa, Lankagama and Nilwella was declared open yesterday by Southern Province Governor Dr. Willie Gamage and Navy Comamnder Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugethenna.
The 84mtr- long bridge lining the remote villages of Nilwella, Neluwa and Lankagama was constructed under a project funded by the Southern Provincial Council and undertaken by the Road Development Authority and the Navy.
Thousands of families in Nilwella, Lankagama and Neluwa areas had been facing hardship for want of a bridge over Ginganga and were exposed to risk while crossing the river during floods.
Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera and several Senior Navy officials were present at the occasion.
