A murder suspect has died in a shootout with the Police at Iththekatuwa in Monaragala yesterday, Police said.
Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said the incident had occurred when some police personnel attempted to arrest the suspect who was wanted in connection with the killing of a 50-year-old man on May 31 in Monaragala.
He said the 31-year-old suspect had shot at the police in an attempt to escape arrest and was badly injured when they returned fire. The suspect died on admission to the Monaragala Hospital. Police said they recovered a shotgun, a hand grenade and a knife which were in the suspect’s possession.
